About Fort Miley

Fort Miley is known to San Franciscans today as the terminus of one of several routes of the No. 38 bus line which operates mostly on Geary Boulevard, as a Veterans' Hospital, and as park land which is under the National Park Service as part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area.  The Fort Miley Military Reservation on Point Lobos, one of the outer headlands on the southern side of the Golden Gate, was acquired by the U.S. Army in 1893 and used as part of the seacoast defense of San Francisco Harbor during the early phases of America's involvement in World War II.  Overlooking Land's End, most of the original Army buildings were demolished in 1934 to allow construction of the Fort Miley Veterans Administration Hospital. The remains of several pre-World War I batteries edge the perimeter of the hospital. West Fort Miley offers visitors a grassy picnic area situated among three gun emplacements, including Battery Chester (1903-1943), which offers a spectacular view down Ocean Beach.

Dandelion Chocolate Tour + Tasting

Join us for a very sweet tasting and tour of Dandelion Chocolate in the Mission! The event is returning for the second time after its great success last year.

Greg D'Alesandre '95 is the cocoa bean sourcer at this award-winning, small-batch chocolate factory and he will lead us on a personal tour of the bean-to-bar process.  Learn about how Greg was inspired by a book on sale at the Brown Bookstore and how it eventually led him down this delicious career path.  We'll get a chance to ask questions about chocolate and the production process, all while tasting our way through the factory!

Dandelion is graciously offering a special $20 price for Brown alumni.  The factory is small and can only accommodate a group of 12, so sign up now!

Purchase tickets here: https://brown-dandelion-chocolate.eventbrite.com
